Halloween 3: Season of the Witch

Yes, I fully realize that we are past the timeframe where a Halloween movie is acceptable watching. If that is a problem with anyone, you are going to be REAL annoyed when I continue with my opinion on this series every week or so, meaning that I’ll probably still be posting about the series in early January. However, as the completionist I happen to be, i don’t think I could stand holding off on this franchise till next year. So, today we are going to be watching the random one-off, non-Michael Myers related anthology film in the Halloween series, titled Halloween 3: Season of the Witch. Here is the trailer.

So, I’m gonna be honest here… This movie wasn’t horrible, but it definitely is not as strong as the rest of the film. I’ll avoid going into the cast of this one, because honestly, I didn’t recognize a lot of them. To be even MORE honest, I don’t remember many specifics from this movie after watching it a few days ago. So, you all will forgive me if I make up character names, because by and large, a lot of it is forgettable.

Our main character here, lets call him Dr. Douchebag (or DB for short), is an emergency room doctor who happens to be estranged from his wife and children. That doesn’t really play into anything in the movie, beyond giving him an excuse to go be involved with the plot while his children conveniently have someone watching them (former Mrs. Dr. DB). We find out from the opening scene that despite him purchasing masks for his kids for Halloween, they already have Shamrock Masks, which apparently is a super popular mask company for children. I… guess fancy masks are in vogue in this universe. Like all deadbeat DB dads, he promises to take them trick or treating on Halloween in a few days, but lets be real… that ain’t happenin’.

So Dr. DB, later that night, gets called into the hospital for an emergency. Some guy is losing his mind, talking about how “they” are coming to take over. The entire hospital staff thinks he is nuts, until he is found murdered and the murderer was caught lighting himself on fire in the parking lot. So Dr. DB starts to investigate. It turns out the crazy hospital patient has an attractive daughter, so Dr. DB starts putting on the moves, meaning following the daughter to her crazy fathers costume shop. From there, the investigation leads them to Shamrock Masks headquarters.

So, back to the “attractive daughter” thing… literally the only reason that is a thing is so they can sleep together, leading him to try to save her for the rest of the movie. Sorry if that seems out of left field, but so was the sex scene, so sue me.

Anyway, at the Shamrock Masks, they get the red carpet treatment, a full tour and the works. On the tour, they see some suspicious stuff, leading them to decide to investigate further that evening after they are closed. What they discover is that the owner of the mask company is actually a witch, and all of his masks will turn wearers into a pile of snakes and bugs if they are wearing it while watching a television broadcast. It is quite a bit more ridiculous then the somewhat grounded Halloween 1 & 2 Michael Myers saga.

Anyway, Dr. DB and his female friend are kidnapped. DB breaks out, frees the girl, and ends up finding a way to turn all the employees at Shamrock masks into snakes and bugs instead. Then, he calls all the television stations to try and force the Shamrock Masks commercial, which would turn all kids into critters, of the air. The very last scene shows him successful at getting it removed from 2 TV stations, but the third left him unsuccessful. Bum, bum BUM!!!!!!

Honestly, i didnt HATE this movie. It just wasnt great. Whereas Halloween 1 was a solid gritty style horror flick, and Halloween 2 was really more of the same, this one was just… ridiculous. I wouldn’t tell anyone they needed to watch this to get the full Halloween story, but I wouldnt actively discourage anyone if they wanted to see it. As for me, I probably won’t ever watch it again.
